Cambodia, Nigeria Eye More Labour and Vocational Training Cooperation

Cambodia and Nigeria have agreed to further foster exchange of exposure visits in labour and vocational training for ministerial and technical levels between the two countries.

The commitment was underscored in a meeting on July 26 here in Phnom Penh between H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and H.E. Mrs. Folakemi I. Akinleye, Manila-based Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Cambodia.

H.E. Ith Samheng was positive that during her tenure with Cambodia, H.E. Mrs. Folakemi I. Akinleye will grease the mentioned cooperation for mutual benefit of the two nations.

The minister also briefed his guest on Cambodia’s labour and vocational training, including improved working condition for workers, digital modernisation of the sector, bettered social security schemes, and other support services – thanks to the country’s peace and political stability.

The minimum wage for workers is raised annually through the National Minimum Wage Council which is a tripartite mechanism, he added.

On July 25, the Nigerian ambassador also met with Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy H.E. Suy Sem to learn more about energy use and development in Cambodia as well as investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
