Cambodia Garment, Footwear, and Travel Goods Sector Development Strategy Launched

The Royal Government of Cambodia on Monday launched the Cambodia Garment, Footwear, and Travel Goods Sector Development Strategy 2022-2027 aiming to strengthen and support the sector in the new context.

The launching ceremony was held online under the presidency of H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance.

Under the strategy, five main key points are stated to support the achievement of the objectives and visions set by the government and to address Cambodia’s challenges.

The five key points are continuing to strengthen human resources to increase productivity and increase career paths for workers, continuing to improve working conditions and welfare of workers and employees, promoting domestic and foreign investment in high value-added industries and focusing on high-value and unique products, attracting investment in connected industries, and promoting market diversification for the export of garments and footwear.

It is a priority for the Royal Government of Cambodia to provide a roadmap for stakeholders to jointly promote the development of the garment sector, said H.E Aun Pornmoniroth.

“Cambodia Garment, Footwear and Travel Goods Sector Development Strategy 2022-2027” has a vision to develop the garment, footwear and travel goods industry in Cambodia into an environmentally sustainable, high value-added industry, focusing on products that can be sold with high price, competitive and fundamentally supportive of economic diversification by 2027,” he said.

The Kingdom exported US$11.38 billion worth of garment, footwear and travel goods last year, a year-on-year increase of 15.2 percent.
