Cambodia Defeats India at ICRC International Wheelchair Basketball Tournament 2022

Cambodian women wheelchair basketball team this morning defeated Indian women’s wheelchair basketball at the 3rd ICRC International Wheelchair Basketball Tournament 2022 in India.

The good news was shared by Mr. Mao Sokchea, Coach of Cambodian wheelchair basketball team, after the Cambodian team beat their Indian opponents 58:14.

Taking place from Nov. 5 to 12, the competition attracts the players from eight countries including Cambodia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Ghana, and India.

This afternoon, the Cambodian women wheelchair team will meet with their opponents from Nepal.

Joining the international competitions is crucial for Cambodian wheelchair basketball athletes to measure and sharpen their capacity for the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 to be hosted by Cambodia.

Besides this tournament, the Cambodian team is scheduled for other competitions with the Philippines and Laos to qualify for the Asian Para Games 2023 in China, he added.

Cambodia grabbed two medals – a gold and a silver – in women’s wheelchair basketball at the recent 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Solo city, Indonesia.

According to the Cambodian ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (CAMAPGOC), Cambodia listed 12 kinds of sports for the 12th ASEAN Para Games including Gymnastics, Boccia, Badminton, Chess, Football (five sides), Football (seven sides), Volleyball, Weightlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Wheelchair Basketball.

In the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Solo city, Indonesia, Cambodia earned in total 28 medals: 7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze in Boccia, Men’s Sitting Volleyball, Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Athletics, and Swimming.
