Cambodia and China will continue to bolster their relations and cooperation, mainly in the field of trade.
The commitment was made in a telephone conversation this afternoon between Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping, H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, told reporters.
H.E. Xi Jinping affirmed that China will import more Cambodian milled rice and other agricultural products such as banana, mango and longan, with the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement which has already entered into force, in order to contribute to alleviating poverty in Cambodia.
Moreover, he announced to support development projects in the Kingdom, especially those related to infrastructure development, and to boost the direct flights between the two countries.
On ASEAN-China relations, H.E. Xi Jinping reiterated China’s support for Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, particularly the ASEAN Chair’s role in regional and international issues, as well as for Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit to Myanmar in early January 2022.
ASEAN and China should expand their cooperation and contribute more actively to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region, he stressed.
The Chinese top leader accepted Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s invitation to pay a visit to Cambodia and invited the latter to visit China in his convenient time after the COVID-19 crisis.
