The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AITI has received several reports from a number of subscribers have recently been receiving calls from an unverified number claiming to be from various Government agencies or businesses. Scammers often use number spoofing, where they mask real phone numbers when calling potential victims. These calls are a form of fraudulent activity with the goal of stealing your money or information.
In this regard, the public are advised to be cautious when answering calls from unfamiliar local or international numbers, particularly when you’re not expecting any calls. Members of the public are also advised not to provide personal or financial details over the phone; be careful with following instructions given on a suspicious calls; and get the caller’s details, hang up the call immediately and contact the Government agencies’ or business’ official number to validate the call received.
