ACMECS Pledges to Expand Direct Flights Within Region

ACMECS Tourism Ministers have urged for more direct flights among their five ACMECS member countries under “Five Countries, One Destination” campaign.

The urge was made in a meeting of the 5th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) chaired by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and Chair of ACMECS in Siem Reap province on Nov. 3.

Other ACMECS tourism ministers including H.E. Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR; H.E. Htay Aung, Minister of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar; H.E. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand; and H.E. Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam also joined the meeting.

On the occasion, ACMECS tourism ministers supported the promotion of ACMECS-Intra Travel focusing on air, land and maritime connectivity as well as self-driving tourism.

Participating ACMECS member countries agreed to foster the tourism product diversification and tourism cooperation to ensure that ACMECS remains competitive and safe tourism destination.

They also shared experiences in digital transformation in tourism sector, digital skills development, and use of digital technology to increase the productivity and competitiveness.

During the first nine months of 2022, ACMECS welcomed some 10 million tourists including 4.8 million or 49 percent intra travellers.
