3rd National Games: Interior Ministry Tops Medal Tally

The Ministry of Interior was placed first during the 3rd National Games by winning 214 medals, of which 104 gold, 61 silver and 49 bronze, after 12 days of competitions. 

The Ministry of National Defence came in second with 124 medals – 60 gold, 33 silver and 31 bronze – followed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance with 77 medals – 29 gold, 24 silver and 24 bronze, the province of Prey Veng with 74 medals – 17 gold, 28 silver and 29 bronze, and the province of Siem Reap with 58 medals – 15 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze. 

For the 1st National Para Games, the first winner team is Kandal province with a total of 28 medals (15 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze), followed by Svay Rieng province with 13 medals (7 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze), Kampot province with 7 medals (4 gold, 3 silver), Phnom Penh capital with 22 medals (3 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze), and Kampong Speu province with 10 medals (3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze). 

The 3rd National Games and 1st National Para Games were concluded in a solemn ceremony at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh this evening under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Held at five destinations including Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Kep, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk and Siem Reap under the theme “Sports Bring Peace and Development”, the sports event, organised every two years, attracted more than 4,500 athletes of 38 kinds of sports and 7 kinds of para sports from across the country to compete in 405 sports disciplines. 

In the 2nd National Games in 2018, the Ministry of Interior also topped the medal tally by getting 149 of the total 885 medals of which 83 were gold, 43 silver and 23 bronze. The Phnom Penh Municipality ranked second, followed by the Ministry of National Defence and the province of Kandal.
